Vintage Royal Winton MARGUERITE cream jug in the AJAX shape with blue trim -- a very hard to find item! This handled jug stands 4" tall, is 4-1/2" long (measured from the tip of the spout to the end of the handle) and 2-1/2" across the base. It has the green "Grimwades Royal Winton Ivory England" backstamp (pre-1936) with "AJAX" and "REGD. NO. APPLIED FOR" impressed in the base. Although the pattern number isn't marked on this jug, it's 9467 (Marguerite with blue trim). Marguerite chintz was introduced in 1928; given that the registration number hadn't been assigned yet, this is a very early example of this pattern, most likely from 1928-29. This piece has no cracks, chips, scratches or restoration; I see no crazing and only the most minimal amount of wear to the pattern. The colors are vivid and the finish is glossy. T are manufacturing flaws to note, however. T's a small uneven spot on the inside edge (see pic 3) w it appears t was an extra dab of clay -- now it's a very slight bump. And along the top edges, the blue trim is interrupted by bits of taupe (see pic 4 for an example). It appears to me the taupe paint is overlapping the blue, but it's possible the blue was unable to ad properly over the taupe portions.
