Vintage Real Photo Postcard of a very tall man (8 foot 2 inches according to the back of the card) probably a circus performer. He is on a ship probably going abroad to display himself. He is being gawked at by (maybe) ship hands and looks like he is being measured by maybe his manager. The back says (in pencil) "A Lad from Dr Barnardo's Home" - 8 ft 2 in). Dr Thomas John Bernardo was a Dublin born "social entrepreneur" who started a crusade to rescue poor abandoned children and place them in orphanages and group homes. Dr Barnardo died in 1905 but his last "orphanage" closed in 1989. Age of card unknown by the looks of the clothes on the fellas may be the 1920s. Near Mint - Sharp corners, wonderful surface, great edges, postally unused but the information on the back is in pencil. Looks like the good Doctor never told the boys that smoking was bad for them cuz this dude has a smoke hanging from his mouth, but it did NOT stunt his growht as often thought!
