Last week I listed this knife as a possible RUANA-made product. I subsequently learned more about this knife and decided to stop the auction so that I could relist it with more accurate information. The knife is about 10.5 inches overall with a 6 inch blade. Although it is unmarked, it has all the characteristics of a Rudy H. Ruana knife made in the early 1940's. And Rudy H. Ruana's son told me it was one of his father's knives. The blade is in good condition with only a few spots. Iit does show some marks perpendicular to the edge that indicate hand finishing to me. T are some dings along the back edge of the blade. I have added a picture to try to show these dings. The handle is made of aluminum with stag inserts like those in later Ruana knives. It does have three aluminum pins which hold the stag slabs in, as opposed to the two pins on later Ruana knives. T are two breaks in the aluminum, one on the top and one on the bottom, I have tried to show these in the pictures. Also the aluminum shows some pits that would indicate poor quality metal was used. Interestingly, Rudy H, Ruana's son told me that during the WW II years his father had difficulty getting quality aluminum to melt down for his knives. Additionally, on the butt of the handle you can see the small rectangular shape of the end of the tang. It appears the tang end was read more
