Offered is a complete set of Russell Jennings Spur Auger Bits coming from the estate of a 30 year antique tool collector. This set is in excellent condition, each bit being clean and sharp and in the original 3-tiered wooden case...a truly rare find. Notable features of this set include: · Complete set of 32 ½ quarters bits (described on the label as Fig. No. 100) #4 through #16 (13 bits total). · Each bit is forged of crucible steel and has a double thread point and extension lip for extremely precise boring. · Brass-hinged and dovetail-jointed 3-tiered case in very fine condition. Though it does show some signs of its many years of service, this case is completely intact, having no splits or breaks. · Original and complete label on case lid (see photos). A favorite for decades of cabinet makers and fine wood craftsmen for precision boring, this bit set is in extremely fine condition. Although I cannot determine the exact age of this set, two pieces of information provide a good reference for estimating a range of time. The label states: "The label on this box was entered according to an Act of Congress, in the year 1876, by Russell Jennings, in the U.S. Patent Office." In addition to this statement, the Russell Jennings Company was purchased by Stanley Tools in 1944 and the bits were then stamped with both company names. The bits in this set are stamped with: "Russell Jennings Made in USA " only and were tfore manufactured prior to 1944. For the antique tool collector or discerning wood craftsman, this bit set would make a rare and valuable addition. Thank you for viewing this listing.
