FINEST ART-DECO SABINO FRANCE 20 th c. OPALENE CRYSTAL SABINO MERMAID BOX 6.25" I have come up with yet another TREMENDOUS SABINO COLLECTABLE SURPRISE for you to get excited about and to bid on. This one is a very rare early 20th century original cast Mermaid figurine Opaline Sabino Art-Deco Box of 3 NAKED SWIMMING MEREMAIDS in their most alluring and provocative attitudes to stimulate all their admirers. This casting was one of his most successful and widely admired pieces, made in France by the Sabino Crystal Company in the 1920's and 1930's. This box was very popular in a 3.5" size, however, this Sabino Box measures 6.25" in diameter and is considerably more rare, and today much more difficult to find. The Sabino Company in France has received world wide recognition for it's consistant high quality, original individuality, Art-Deco style, and the unparalleled magnificient original Opalene Colors. MARIUS ERNEST SABINO was born in Sicily in 1878 and moved to France as a boy. He studied drawings and sculpture at L'Ecole National des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, and further at Les Beaux-Arts de Paris. He founded a factory to make glass and light fittings and fixtures, and t created an opalescent glass with a blue hue and irridescent impressions. He designed and made special lighting for the French luxury liner "Isle de France" in 1927, and lighted a fountain column for the Grand Salon for the liner "Normandy" in 1935. in 1931 he produced a large crystal Fish which was bought by Maurice Chevalier. The many Sabino pieces include a wide variety of Paper-Weights, Book Ends, Plates, Vases, Boxes, Nudes, Animals...etc...etc. In 1936 he was commissioned to produce all the Electric Lights and Chandeliers for the Shah of Persia. Sabino produced no new pieces after 1941, and he died in 1961. My wife bought this marvelous Sabino Opaline Box from Richard in his Galleria in Houston, Texas. It is clearly signed on the underside upper edge of the lid of the box, impressed in bold upper case letters SABINO . PARIS and further signed on the inside center of the bottom of the box impressed SABINO FRANCE . This Sabino Box is absolutely undamaged or unrestored in any way. T are no scratches or cracks or chips or craze. THIS SABINO BOX IS ABSOLUTELY PRISTINE . The Box measures 6.25" in diameter at the base. and it weighs 2.0 lbs and 2.0 ozs.
