OPALESCENT CAST CRYSTAL FISH

I have come up with yet another delightful Collectible surprise for you to bid on. This one is a rare early-20th century, beautifully and carefully hand cast MAGNIFICENT OPALENE CRYSTAL SWIMMING FISH which was made in a limited series in FRANCE by the SABINO CRYSTAL COMPANY in the early 1920's and 1930's, and has received world wide recognition for it's consistant high quality, originality, Art Deco Style and exciting Opalescent colors.

Marius Ernest Sabino was born in Sicily in 1878 and moved to France as a boy. He studied drawings and sculpture at L'Ecole Nationale des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, and further at the Beaux Arts de Paris. He founded a factory to make glass and light fittings and fixtures, and created an opalescent glass with a blue hue and irridescent impressions. He designed and made special lighting for the luxury liner 'Isle de France' in 1927, and a lighted fountain column for the Grand Salon of the 'Normande' in 1935. In 1931 he created a large Crystal FISH which was bought by Maurice Chevalier. Todays offering is a smaller reproduction of the original. The many Sabino pieces include a wide variety of Paper Weights, Book Ends, Plates and Vases, Nudes Fish and Animals etc. and in 1936 he was commissioned to produce all the electric lights and chandeliers for the Shah of Persia. Sabino created no new pieces after 1941, and he died in 1961.

My wife bought this Fish from Richard in the Galleria in Houston. Texas, during a trip t in the early 1970's. It is clearly hand signed on the bottom "SABINO PARIS" with an original sticker, and carries the raised impression "SABINO FRANCE" along the base. It is undamaged with no marks or cracks and is pristine. A JOY TO OWN.
