This auction is for a vintage San Francisco Zoo Red Elephant Key with tag. This key belonged to me which I believed I used in the late 50's or 60's. The key reads S.F. Zoo Society on one side and Key to San Francisco Zoo. The red elephant is attached to a yellow tag which says This is "Trunkey" the elephant, Your family's KEY to the San Francisco Zoo, To use him: Insert his trunk all the way into the keyhole of each TALKING STORYBOOK, then turn him clockwise one-half turn. When story begins, turn him back and pull him out. This key belongs to.... this part is blank. The other side reads The San Francisco Zoological Society Welcomes you to the San Francisco Zoo, As you use this KEY you will learn many fascinating things about the Birds and Animals you see It will turn on all of the many TALKING STORYBOOKS placed throughout the ZOO. Keep your key and whenever you return bring it with you to learn more about the ANIMAL KINGDOM. The tag has bend marks and wrinkles. The zoo still has story telling boxes however they have changed the key and this one will not operate the new boxes. Besides the cable cars this is a great piece of San Francisco history.
