IN THIS AUCTION: a vintage signed "L Sandoval" "Sterling" Sterling silver Navajo/Native American "Kokopelli" pin or brooch - exactly as shown in the photos. THe silversmith is either Larry or Leroy Sandoval (from page 150 of "Hallmarks of The Southwest")The pin measures approximately 55mm (2 1/8 + inches) top to bottom. Kokopelli is a fertility deity, usually depicted as a humpbacked flute player (often with feathers or antenna-like protrusions on his head), who has been venerated by some Native American cultures in the Southwest United States. Like most fertility deities, Kokopelli presides over both childbirth and agriculture. He is also a trickster god and represents the spirit of music. the pin is in good pre-owned condition with some very minor wear, recently polished and weighs 3.7 grams on our scale.
