Lovers of vintage jewelry, feast your eyes! Brought home to the USA from Thailand during the Vietnam War, this extraordinary ring displays intricate workmanship and the marriage of round-cut sapphires and teardrop opals. My jeweler said they might be moonstones, but he thinks they're not due to the fluorescent greens and oranges mixed in with their blue. He cleaned up the gold which was tarnished dark brown, and uncovered the blue of the sapphires, and look what emerged! OK. I've given you the chance to supersize, so let's start with photos #1 and #3. These show the three tiers of sapphires to best advantage. Keeping in mind that I am using a very basic diamond size selector, the eight sapphires running around the outer edge are 3 pts. each. The tier under the topmost sapphire consists of another eight 1 1/2 point sapphires, and the largest sapphire crowning the ring is a 12 -pointer. I am not a jeweler, and maybe the size of sapphires is graded differently than diamonds, but this will at least give you a mental image: we are at a total of 48 points in in clear blue sapphires. The sapphires are BLUE , not black; my camera is too good and cannot tell a lie, so you will receive exactly what you see. The opals measure 4 mm in length and t are eight of these, also.
