The crossovers inside the speakers are the ones that make (nearly) all KEF reference speakers a flat four ohms across the entire frequency range. The Kube is like a tape deck: it doesn't care what speakers are connected. The amp is the thing that deals with Ohms.Each model got a Kube specially tuned to extend the bass response by boosting specific bass frequencies by specific amounts. This is just like turning up the bass on your pre-amp or graphic equalizer, but done with insider knowledge of the speaker's frequency response. As can be imagined it's probably easier to fry a woofer when the kube is engaged, but they are pretty rugged and designed to handle high output.All that said, they sound fine without the kube, but better with it.
