ABOUT THIS CLOCKThis clock was made in Germany by Schatz. Schatz is well known for quality eight day black forest cuckoo clocks. This is an 8 day circa 1940s fully restored classic Hunter Style Cuckoo Clock. It measures 17 inches from top of antlers to the bottom of bag, and 10 inches wide at its widest point.
This clock is around 60 years old or older based on the works and flutes etc. WHY IS THIS CLOCK UNIQUE This one has colorful glass eyes in the deer head. These larger Schatz 8 Day cuckoo clocks are getting hard to find. It also has both horn ends in tact, both antlers and ears in tact, and it is in great looking condition. HOW THIS CLOCK WORKS On the hour the cuckoo bird appears from behind the door, it cuckoos and strikes a gong wire the number of the hour (see video above). On the half hour the bird appears, it cuckoos, and a gong strikes 1 time 2 large correct weights drive this clock. REPAIRS FULL OUT OF CASE SERVICE I inspect them for wear and case damage, and do any needed case repair. Replace the bellow paper on one or both bellows if needed. Clean case and carvings and treat with lemon oil. lubricate and adjusted them in only the proper locations. I run them on my shop wall until they are working properly. APPEARANCE Very few chips, cracks, and/or repairs if any are present. It is common for older clocks to have these signs of age. Most are repaired very well and you cannot even see the work that has been done. This one has no visible damage. Please see photos for details. VALUE The Restored value on a clock like this in good working condition is around $700.00 - $800.00 I have seen ones like it in local antique/retail clock stores for that price range. ABOUT US We buy or take in on trade old and "like new" cuckoo clocks. We inspect, repair, and oil them as needed. After any repairs and/or cleaning, we run them on the wall for at least a week. Any missing parts are stated above. shop wall video >
THE CLOCKS ARE WORKING All clocks in working condition, but are still sold as is . This is due to the fact that cuckoos can get out of adjustment for many reasons. Most are easy to correct. If you are not handy with this kind of thing, you may need to work with your local clockmaker to get started with your restored vintage cuckoo clock. Clockmakers who service cuckoo clocks are still around. They love to see these old ones too. I do not mind helping with the set up via email. We do our very best to restore these clocks to working condition, and we carefully clean the exterior to the best looking they can be without removing the natural ageing that gives these clocks so much charm. The clocks may have some missing decoration parts from time to time, and we will mention it in the listing, so please look at the photos well. To the best of our knowledge, these clocks are not missing parts that will effect the operation of the clock. We do not always do deep ultrasonic cleaning of the clockworks unless needed. We do restore them to working condition and lubricate them as needed. The older clocks are sometimes brittle and you should be careful unpacking them and setting them up.
