This is one of the most stunning brooches I've seen in a long time! A gorgeous large rectangle Art Deco pin by Schreiner of New York. This came from an estate of a very wealthy woman and most of her pieces were this substantial. I would date this to the 1940s about a decade after Schreiner started in the business. Since he stopped jewelry designing in the late 1970's, his pieces are rare and collectible. The blood red glass stones are nicely sized. All set in various positions that just reflect the light just right to make it dazzle. Oval raised hallmark on the back. Converts to a pendant which would be a killer with a gold lame cocktail dress draping down the v-neck! Measures 2.25 x 2 inches. All prong set. Stones are ovals, rounds, marquis and the center stone is a large faceted emerald cut rectangle. No missing stones. Center stone is mounted in a prong setting and then attached by links on each side for added security. Very unique design. One setting is a little bent on the outside edge - an easy fix. Clasp works great! History of Schreiner Jewelry: Company was started after WW2 but soon Henry died in 1954. The business closed in 1975. Schreiner personally designed the pieces and he also designed pieces for couturiers which might have the fashion house's marks on the piece or be unsigned. What makes this jewelry so collectible today it that was never mass produced and the work was hand finished.
