Pictured is a Sheaffer Jr. lever filling Balance pen in ebonized pearl Radite. This color was introduced in 1934 and seems to have been most popular in the junior model. Many of the ones I have seen are pretty badly stained from ink, but this particular one has weatd the years pretty well unscathed. That is the reason it is in my collection and has remained t for many years. The surface is still smooth and shiney and is free of any cracks, gouges, or scratches. Even the imprint (see picture) is still crisp. The barrel does have a few minor pinpoint nicks that are unnoticeable unless you are looking for them. The pearl chips are magnificent and they glow and change colors when the pen is turned in your hand. Quite a sight! Today this pen is difficult to find and moves quickly when it emerges on the market. The nickel trim is free of any brassing, but t is a little corrosion on the fill lever. I managed to remove most of it by polishing to the point that it doesn't bother me. It can be fully polished out because it is solid nickel, but I just have not taken the time. All pens in my collection are restored and have new bladders installed. However, pens that have an element of transparency like this one do not receive a new bladder unless requested by the buyer because the fumes from the rubber bladder have a tendency to add in the staining. read more
