Great Looking Collectible is a very interesting.... primitive style.... shoe shine box....that has just come from a Texas Estate. The combination of unique colors and heavy wear patterns....make for a wonderful "Carnival Like" presentation. The sights and sounds of the City....come to mind....as you remember the last time you happened upon the "Shoe Shine Man". Perhaps it was in the Hotel Lobby....or right next to Santa Claus....as he rang his Christmas Bell. I believe this one was actually used on the street for a period of time. It still had photos of the family....taped to the inside walls....when I bought it out of storage. I am not quite sure how old this piece is....but it has probably been around for a few years. I don't think it is a super old antique though....judging by the fasteners that were used in the overall construction. It does look like it was made by hand in a very primitive manner. The box is made from several individual planks of wood that appear to be pine. They are held together with very large staples and are then again tightened with a smaller version of the same fastener. T is an elongated hinge that holds the top in place. The piece is finished in a flaked barn red....with a neat contrast of white.... showing through. The footpiece displays a lime green....to call attention to the service that is offered. The box measures close to 12 3/4 inches long and nearly 8 1/4 inches in the other direction. It stands close to 7 1/2 inches tall. The foot plate....takes it a bit higher. This is really a great looking box that is "One of a Kind". If I was going to keep the box....I believe that I would go through and change out some of the screws and so on....to give this a super old look. What a wonderful accent piece for that Country Home.
