H ere is an exquisite vintage sterling silver necklace by GERARDO LOPEZ , one of the famous silversmiths of Taxco, Mexico. Lopez's pieces are always superbly made in elegant and timeless designs. This wonderful necklace is masterfully crafted in an elegant and artistic motif with Art Nouveau styling. It has sculptural silver repousse links and a unique heavy-duty clasp. Repousse is a silver working technique in which metals (such as sterling silver) is shaped by hammering from the reverse or under side. This technique is extremely time consuming and can take an artist an entire day or many days to complete just one piece. The links are connected at the top with soldered silver jump rings which allows the necklace to lay gracefully when worn. The silver has acquired a soft patina that reflects the shadows created by the depth of the unique design. This extraordinary necklace is extremely well made in a classical and sophisticated motif that will always be stylish. T he necklace measures 16" inches long and 3/4" inches wide. Total weight is 53.3 grams. It is in excellent vintage condition, no dings or dents to the silver work, only minor scratches due to loving wear, consistent with it's age.
