I originally purchased this beautiful item from a dealer who obtained this piece from a private estate collection of some of the finest and rarest vintage Mexican jewelry. It is a signed, Mexican Hand Crafted Sterling Silver & Genuine Turquoise Overlay/Inlay Articulated Sea Horse Pendant, thought to be Circa 1960's. The Sea Horse measures 4" in height (not including w you attach the chain or ribbon, and about 2" at the widest point (including the back fin). The pendent is made of Sterling Silver and is hand tooled. The opening w the chain goes is large enough (5/8" x 1/4") that this pendent can be worn with either a chain, a scarf, or even a colorful nylon rope or leather strip. I have included one picture showing the type of Sterling Silver chain (20") that I bought to wear with the pendent, but never did. Since everyone has preferences for type, thickness, and length, THE CHAIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE BIDDING. I will be listing any extra new chains that I purchased, on eBay, as soon as I have the time. I will identify the specific chain shown (BUT NOT INCLUDED) in that one SAMPLE picture, just in case you liked the way it looked with the pendent. From what I understand, Overlay/Inlay is a lost art form, and not many are made these days. The artist would start with two separate pieces of flat silver and cut the design out of the top piece, much like latticework on an apple pie (ok, not the best of comparisons). That piece would then be overlayed and soldered on top of the solid base piece, the entire item would be slightly domed w the cut out designs are, and the artist would then place each inlay pieces (in this case, turquoise) in by hand. With a magnifying glass you can see w occasionally it was not possible to fit a piece in, and the bottom shows through. I can see why very few people even try these days...which is why this is such a great find! As you can see from the pictures...I tried to give you as many as I was allowed...this is such a magnificent work of art. The Sea Horse is able to move in all three areas w it is hinged and will make a great conversation piece! This piece is signed "MPL" by the Taxco Artisan; stamped "TAXCO"; stamped "925" (which is the mark for Sterling Silver); and stamped "Mexico". Finally, it was stamped with the Mexican Government Silver Assay Eagle Benchmark, with the number "3" in the center of the Eagle. This beautiful piece is in excellent condition for its age and travels, and if t is any visable wear I was not able to find it. The turquoise inserts help to make this an unusual pendent and, although they do not do it justice, the pictures do give you a fairly accurate idea of what you would be bidding on. One last thing, the back of the pendent appears to be a highly polished silver, was the top piece seems to be less polished. That could be because one would not want to stress out the inlay areas, but I just wanted to mention that fact. Remember, this is a vintage piece and is unique, as are all handmade items, but that is what makes them one of a kind. I will combine multiple wins, so please let me know as soon as possible if you are watching or bidding on any of my other items. Any reduction or increase in shipping charges, due to combined shipping, will only be reflected in my invoice. Please do not pay directly through eBay unless you are satisfied with the combined charges listed on the notification from eBay. All my items will be wrapped very carefully, and are either shipped in a bubble-wrap envelope or a small box first class mail to save on shipping charges. If you prefer to have them shipped priority the shipping would be $5.60...of course, the rate may change if you win multiple items. As usual, insurance is always an option. All my items come from a smoke-free home. Thank you for bidding and/or looking. In case you would like to know the Insurance Rates, these are from the 2007 United States Postal Service listing: $0.01 to $50.00 = $1.65 $...
