VINTAGE SINGER 66 SEWING MACHINESerial # 344800 This vintage Singer 66 is indeed a rare find. I Iooked up the serial # on this one and found that the date of issue is 1928. That makes this machine about 80 years old. The book that came with it shows a picture of a Singer 66 treadle machine. This is not a treadle, and I do not think that it has been converted from treadle to motor/belt driven. I think that this book was standard for all Singer 66's at this time. This is, of course a motor powered machine, straight stitch. It is in very good mechanical condition to be this old. I have cleaned, oiled, and serviced it to bring it to its best performance. Because these machines were so well made, it will probably last another 80 years with some tender loving care. It is also in good cosmetic condition for its age. The scroll work is shown in the pics and as you can see it is in pretty good condition. This machine comes with the original instruction manuel as mentioned. It has a singer motor, footfeed, and light. The power cords are in good condition. I have made a light weight wooden base to make it fully portable. The bottom is lined with felt so as not to scratch the surface that it is placed on. This machine sewed smoothly and quietly on the materials shown in the swatches. T are two black leather swatches. One is of light weight leather and the other is two thickness of heavy bike leather. The denim swatch shows sewing through two thickness and then folded to make four thickness of heavy jeans denim. The other swatch is just medium weight cotton material. Whether you are looking for just a great collectors item or for a good heavy duty straight stitch sewing machine, this would be an excellent choice.
