Here we have an inlaid marquetry jewellery / trinket box, produced in Andalucia, Spain, with a working Reuge Swiss Musical Movement. One of the labels to the base says "El Gato Montes", which I believe is a 3 act opera by Manuel Penella, although I do not know which specific piece is played upon winding the key and opening the box...though I can confirm it does play a tune! It stands on 4 small wooden feet, 1 of which can be seen from the numerous accompanying pictures, has obviously come off at some stage and clumsily replaced. There are also 2 adjacent pieces missing from the edge of the lid. The internal mirror is in poor order and the interior material needs a good clean, otherwise there is just light, general wear as you might expect. The hinges and clasp are in decent, functionally item. This could make a fairly easy restoration project or, simply cleaned up, used and with the musical element to enjoy. The piece measures 13.5 cms across by 12 cms by 8 cms tall (including legs) and weighs 300 grammes. Feel free to ask any questions.
