Up for bid is a vintage turtleback stained glass jewel. It measures approximately 5 1/4" x 4". As shown in some of the pictures, it is iridescent. This is thick and heavy piece. When held up to the light it is a deep red. It has some hard residue around the edges that is hard to remove. This proves that it had been used in a project. There is some chipping around the edge. When I first saw these, I wondered how they could be used in a stained glass panel. Considering their size and weight, I could not see them being used in a panel. Then while looking through "The Lamps of Tiffany" by Dr. Egon Neustadt, I discovered that turtlebacks similar to this one were used in the bases of Tiffany lamps. I cannot verify that these were produced by the Tiffany Studios, but I have never seen any quite like these before. They are quite rare. Picture 6 shows a smaller turtleback that I have listed. Thanks for looking, and good luck bidding.
