Vintage Star Sterling Silver Refillable Lighter w/ Gold Engraved Oriental Scene Vintage Star Sterling Silver Flip Top Refillable Lighter with Gold Engraved Oriental Scene The lighter has a gold inlayed very detailed engraved Oriental Scene design on the front and back of the body. It does not produce a spark cause its missing the flint wheel as shown in pictures. The lighter is manufactured by Star, and it is made of Sterling Silver. The lighter weighs 58.3 grams Measures 2 1/2" tall by 7/8" wide. The lighter is in good shape with no major dents or flaws . Sterling silver (.925 silver) is an alloy consisting of 92.5% fine silver and 7.5% other metals (usually copper). Jewelry makers use sterling silver because of its strength and durability, fine silver alone is soft and to easily damaged to be used for jewelry. In the United States sterling silver must be at least 92.5% fine silver to be marketed as sterling silver. Cleaning Process Each piece is washed in warm water with mild detergent to remove dirt and oils. It is then Electrolytically cleaned in hot water with Sodium Carbonate to remove tarnish. Items with porous stones such as Opals and Turquoise are cleaned differently. Then they are lightly scrubbed with a special scrubbing agent to clean behind settings and remove any left behind tarnish.
