Georgeous ~French Style Figural Metal Statue Repourposed from an old metal lamp base Size: approx 17" high Estimated Age: 1950's This is a whimsical painted patina finish spelter metal statue of two beautiful young maidens, holding hands. One is looking over the other's shoulder as she reads a note; from her lover perhaps? It was once a lamp base that has been repourposed as a decorative piece of art. These old metal lamp bases have become a popular decor item in recent years and are getting very hard to find. I am told by a fellow ebayer that this is most likely american made, by the JB Hirsch Co of NYC using the same identical antique french molds smuggled out of Europe during the Nazi Invasion in WWII and that the artist most likely is Aug Moreau from one of the Paris French Foundries. The original crazed paint has a great time worn patina. The paint is all chippy, revealing some of the base metal underneath. There are some loose paint pieces here and there, so it is likely that some additional paint will flake off during shipping. The dominant colors are muted green and cream. The nose of the maiden on the right is not broken, just missing some paint. There is a hole in the base and a minor bend where the stem of the lamp was removed. There is another hole in the back for the cord. There is a small raised area of metal on the left arm of the left lady and a rough area on the tip of the other's hair where it attached the lamp stem was once attached. There is a handwritten date inside the base of: "7-16-1957." I found no makers markings. Shipping price quoted is at or below actual cost and includes insurance.
