i have a very old old stencil making tool box complete with hammer, steel letters, numbers, and punctuation marks, templates, a small bottle w/cork of "fine crimson bronze", and old handbills advertising the man and his trade... the box looks like oak and measures 13.5 x 7 x 5 inches.....note the handle was made from bent wires...the top is held on by copper coated? steel screws..... with large rounded heads....the hinges are brass colored but are magnetic... so i assume they are steel.. the top is held closed by 2 hooks and eyes... they appear to be brass/copper?..t is a keyed lock but no key........the box and top corners have an interesting dove tail ....as you can see t are 3 compartments the large one holds the boxes filled with the letters etc....the next largest one is filled with templates???? they are of various shapes and sizes....t are also some thin brass pieces... t is one template? with a piece of brass in it....see photos.... the letters are of 2 sizes, i think,,,... the larger tools have the smaller letters.... odd....so small i can hardly see them......the hammer has replaceable heads...it is marked "DIKA GREGORY B-3"..the heads have been used but the hammer is still solid.....the templates? appear to be thin copper or brass...now the best part...... t are 4 handbills in good condition... some tears and deterioration but still readable... they should go into frames asap..t are a small hand full of "pieces" also....if you can read the handbills they say it all....the owner purchased the right to make and print stencils from a "S. M. SPENCER, BRATTLEBORO, VERMONT"....I ASSUME HE WOULD VISIT A TOWN, SET UP IN A HOTEL AND THEN PUT OUT THE HANDBILLS ADVERTISING HIS WORK..... it is strange the owner does not have his name on the handbills.....maybe it was to be written in???? the tool holders are blocks of wood bored and chiseled out with thin lath on the sides and bottom... one of the sides was missing so i lightly glued a thin piece of cardboard on it toi keep the tools from falling out... you can easily replace it if you want... the small bottle measures 11/16ths across the bottom.. 1 5/8 inches tall, including the cork..the label is marked "fine crimson bronze" and instructions for use,,, it is maker marked "J. P. BARNES, ROCHESTER, N.Y. t is a "pinch mark" on the bottom of the bottle........this is, without a doubt, one of the nicest items i have ever listed on Ebay...bid high!! don't let this rare piece of history get away.....the shipping will be per your zip code and no handling fees...thanks
