This beautiful vintage Hopi overlay pendant was made in the 1990s by master silversmiths and husband-and-wife-team Gary and Elsie Yoyokie. It was purchased new at the renowned Heard Museum in Phoenix , Arizona around 1995 and has only been worn a couple of times. It is marked sterling silver and features the Yoyokie hallmark on the back (see photos).The pendant is an exquisite example of the Hopi silver overlay technique and features Kokopelli with his flute and two corn plants. The irregularly shaped pendant is roughly 1.24 inches long including the bail and 1 inch wide and weighs approximately 6 gm. The Yoyokies are members of the Spider Clan and live at Kykotsmovi, Third Mesa, Arizona on the Hopi Nation.During their distinguished careers as silversmiths, the Yoyokies have won many awards at major shows and exhibits, including the Santa Fe Indian Market, where their unique jewelry has won dozens of ribbons, including Best of Division awards. The Yoyokies were selected as Fellowship winners by the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts in 1993 in recognition of their beautifully designed and crafted silverwork. They were also honored by the Museum of Northern Arizona , which presented the Yoyokies with the Charles Loloma Award of Excellence.
