This auction is for a beautiful set of Franklin Mint Solid Sterling Silver Apostle Spoons. Twelve spoons have a figure of an Apostle at the top and an engraved creed passage on each spoon face, the thirteenth and largest spoon depicts Jesus Christ holding the orb and cross. The 13 spoons are in excellent condition and come in the original box with the original information. The limited edition set of spoons was released in 1973. The total weight of the 13 sterling (92.5 % silver) spoons is about 16.2 ounces. The Franklin Mint was founded in 1964 when it began striking legal tender coins for foreign countries, as well as commemorative medallions in various precious metals. The whole box measures 16 1/2" X 11 5/8" X 1 7/8". . Included are: 12-solid sterling silver Apostle spoons-approx. 5 1/4" long 1-solid sterling silver Master spoon-approx. 6" long 1-folding display case that can be used as a standing display, or the hardwood frame can be removed for hanging. 1-Certificae of Authenticity 1-Apostles Creed 1-Franklin Mint pamphlet about the spoons 1-Franklin Mint letter to the subscriber. This was the first complete set of sterling silver Apostle Spoons produced in America since the turn of the century. The distinguished religious artist Rodney Winfield created the designs on the spoons. The front of each spoon bears a sculptured portrait of Jesus or one of His apostles. On the back is the name and traditional symbol of that apostle. The portion of the Apostles' Creed is etched into the bowl of each spoon. The reverse of each spoon is stamped "STERLING".The collection was available during 1973-1974. T were 9749 sets produced. RATINGS : Rarity: 9 on a 10 scale. Attractiveness: 9 on a 10 scale, the high relief and proof quality are superb on these spoons. Outside of display box is a little âeoeshelf damagedâe see picture, and some of the spoons need polishing, otherwise all are in excellent condition.
