I have been listing several pieces of Sterling Silver lately. The fact that makes them special is that I acquired them from a man that retired from his jewelry shop several years ago. I was lucky enough to be able to purchase some of what he had saved. Everything I got from him is not only "BRAND-NEW", it is "VINTAGE" and much of it has been discontinued. This is "RARE", "OLD-STOCK". I am offering a discontinued item. It is a "STERLING SILVER with 24K GOLD-PLATING" on the inside. I've done some research, and the cups were meant mostly for juices and gold does not react with the acid in juices like silver does. Many cups and goblets were made with what is called a "gold-wash", but few items were actually gold-plated, and 24K besides. The cup is just over 2" in height with an opening of 2 1/4", and holds 4 ounces of fluid. As you can see from the pictures, the cup is pristine. It was made by WEB SILVER COMPANY, which began in Philadelphia in the early 19th-Century and merged with the Salisbury Silver and Pewter Company in the mid 20th-Century. The cup is still made today, but without the GOLD-PLATING. I spoke with one of the heads of Salisbury Co.
