This is a vintage silver and enamel viking ship brooch, marked for Norway 925 silver, and made by Aksel Holmsen who was part of the ever popular modernist movement in Scandinavian silver smithing during the 1950s and 60s. The sail has blue and white enamelling, and the body of the boat with its shields in alternating colours is beautifully finished. The highly detailed silver elements have a gold coloured finish. The brooch is in very good vintage condition, the enamel is perfect, but the gold gilt on the silver does have expected discolouration as seen in the pictures below. This brooch is marked on the reverse with Norne which was a trademark of Aksel Holmsen, and 925S for silver. The overall condition is very good as shown in the photographs (some fine surface micro scratches commensurate with age) so please view all pictures as they form part of the description.
