This is a lovely vintage sterling silver cigarette lighter with a liftarm mechanism. All parts seem to move well and there is a wick. Since I don't have lighter fluid, I have not tested to see if it works.

Hallmarks are F & B in a flag and J.C.N. Co. The lighter is also clearly marked Sterling.

The lighter is monogrammed with the initials shown in the photos.

As with all vintage items, the lighter does show signs of use. There is a very small dent, which is shown in the photo showing the back of the lighter. There is a deeper scratch running through the bottom screw. There are lighter scratches commensurate with regular use.

The lighter weighs 40 grams. It is 1 3/8 inches wide (or 1 1/2 if you include the protruding lever mechanism at the top of the lighter). It is 1 1/2 inches high when the liftarm is fully collapsed. It is 1/2 inch thick.

I have gently polished the lighter but did not attempt to polish the areas under the liftarm and other mechanisms. I will leave that additional polishing to the buyer.

The F&B flag hallmark is the mark of Foster and Bailey, a Providence, Rhode Island silversmith that operated between the years of 1878 and 1898. It seems that between 1898 and 1951 a successor company operated under the name Theodore W. Foster and Bros and continued to use the same mark.
