DESCRIPTION : You are bidding on an SPECTACULAR sterling hinged cuff bracelet that was handwrought in Mexico, after 1978. The extraordinary bimorphic design of this bracelet is attributed to world renowned silver maestro, SIGFRIDO (SIGI) PINEDA (1929-). The long career of award winning Sigfrido Pineda began early in his life when he worked for 3 years for Los Castillo as a teenager. He then worked briefly with Salvador Teran, then with Felipe Martinez at Piedra y Plata. He eventually became the head of the enameling workshop at Margot de Taxco before he opened his own shop, Plateros, in 1952. The name of his shop was later changed to SIGI. SIGI's designs show creative use of dimension and great design flow. According to SIGI, women have always been the most important inspiration for his work. They have been business partners, financial backers, and clients who have appreciated his talent as a designer. Women are drawn to his jewelry because it is simple and dramatic and comfortable to wear. SIGI is one of only two or three major designers working in Taxco today. This cuff is masterfully crafted in a modernist design with a wonderful art deco look. It is a super dimensional piece and is made of very heavy gauge silver ~ the front has four open linear silver designs that are accented with large, thick silver ovals ~ a fabulous look! The bracelet is hinged on both sides and has a tongue and box closure in the back that works perfectly and closes with a crisp 'click'. This is quite a masterful and bold bracelet ~ it is extremely well crafted and comfortable to wear ~ sure bring lots of compliments when worn! A grand asset to any Taxco silver collection! SIZE: Inside circumference when closed is 6-3/4" width in front is just over 1-1/4", width in back is just shy of 5/8", and weight is 75 grams. CONDITION : Superior vintage condition ~ no dings/dents to silverwork/very minor surface scratches normal for any vintage piece that has been loved and worn/one of the oval silver designs has a slight irregular place on the bottom left but not noticeable and does not detract from the aesthetic beauty ~ no damage noted ~ just about PERFECT! HALLMARKS : "925, TR-45, JR (conjoined). Silversmith JR and this identical hallmark are shown on pages 220 and 268 of Bille Hougart's highly respected source book, The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks (2006 edition).
