VINTAGE TAXCO STERLING SYN ALEXANDRITE BRACELET,1950s.. This remarkable bracelet was included in a jewelry lot purchased at an estate auction; precise age is unknown, though we are confident that it dates from the 1950's, possibly the 1960's, based on design, hallmark, assay mark, and the age of other items in the lot. Before going any further, a couple of notes ... The sterling silver in this bracelet is darkened, with light scratches and some tarnish, but without the yellowish hue in many of our pictures. And the stones shift in color from bluish lavender to deep reddish purple in real life, though we had some difficulty capturing that in our pictures (the color shift is perhaps most easily viewed in our 12th and 13th pictures). And finally, just in case you might want to gamble that the stones are genuine alexandrite, they are not. Genuine alexandrite shifts in color, depending upon the light, from green or bluish green to reddish purple or bluish lavender. Synthetic alexandrite typically shifts from reddish purple to bluish lavender or simply blue. If the stones in this bracelet were genuine alexandrite, the bracelet would, of course, be worth about a gazillion dollars -- we should be so lucky.
