This is a genuine vintage vase from Van Briggle Pottery in Colorado Springs, CO, dating from the late 1970s or early 1980s. Made with the figure of a woman as part of the vase, it is called The Loreli . It depicts one of the women of the German legend about the beautiful women who sat on rocks, singing incredibly lyrical and haunting melodies that no man could resist. The Loreli's songs lured sailors to their doom. When sailors tried to get closer to hear the music, their ships ran into rocks, broke apart, and sank. All the sailors drowned. Inside the vase is a paper containing a poem about the Loreli as well as a brochure on Van Briggle Pottery. A picture in the brochure shows old cars from the 1960s parked in the parking lot. This is a real find! To see the pictures at their best, click on supersize , then click on maximize picture . T are no chips, cracks, or crazing of any kind on the vase. The finish/glazing on the vase is very smooth; however, the bottom is not glazed, so the bottom and the bottom edge are not as smooth to the touch as tst of the piece. The white glaze goes all the way to the bottom so the "pottery color" shows only if you turn the vase over to inspect the bottom. Since all Van Briggle pieces are handmade, I'm sure t are small variations from one Loreli vase to the next, but I would call the condition of this
