Most wonderful vintage bed coverlet from The Bates Mills, Lewiston/Auburn, Maine. These are machine stamped and are made to imitate the Italian stuffed-from-behind TRAPUNTO bed covers without the high cost of hand stitching. The stuffing is cotton and does not shift when washed. The 3" fringe is attached with an awl then hand tied. This cover had 2 'cut corners' to fit around a bed post without bunching up ~ see photo. If you don't have a bed post, then put the cut corners at the head of the bed and the straight edge at the foot of the bed ~ simple. Measures 84" long x 82" wide ~ a modern queen bed is 80" long x 60" wide and a modern double bed is 78" long x 54" wide so this coverlet will fit either beds ~ pictured on a queen mattress and covers the side and foot of the mattress. Since this is not a bedspread, it does not go to the floor so a dust ruffle on top of the box spring is necessary. Coverlets do not go over the pillows so pillowshams are to be used. Notice the puffy roses, urns, and many other elements that cover this coverlet ~ a very busy pattern. Freshly washed, sparkling white, with NO damage, NO repairs!
