The worst stain on this quilt is seen on pic # 11 above: it is a medium size, faint, but visible water or humidity damage that you'll notice easily on the close-up: we believe it is washable, but we are not sure. The other visible damages are on the edges and corners and just require mending. The binding has to be replaced if you want this to look like new, as it is frayed all around. It is in very good condition considering its age, beauty, and collectible value.Red and white American patchwork quilts are one of the most collectible: probably the best known collection belongs to Joanna S. Rose, about which more is explained below. The red and white quilt we are selling here today was set by hand, but machine quilted, as you'll notice. The batting is 100% cotton. The off-white fabric used for the top and the backing is 100% old cotton probably from flour sacks. The turkey red fabric is also old, and the white swatches were made with a polka dot (red on white) fabric that was probably recovered from feed sack scraps. The pattern is Double Irish Chain. The quilt is thin, but of course has batting. It measures approximately 78" by 69" across. The bed in the photos is a queen, 80" by 60".Regarding red and white quilts, from the website of the American Folk Art Museum of New York:The long-awaited publication Red & White Quilts: Infinite Variety read more
