These fabrics and feed sacks are from my collection which I accumulated over many years. I have stored them in airtight containers in a smoke-free home. I am selling several unopened feedsacks and some partial feedsacks. Their condition is always noted. I consider all sales final unless you find something I missed. Please feel free to ask questions. I have several items for sale and I will combine shipping. Good luck with your bidding! About Feedsacks: In the 1840s flour, sugar, and other staples were packaged in large cotton bags. Initially the fabric was not particularly attractive. But then manufacturers started offering sacks in desirable fabrics as a marketing ploy to create loyalty. It might take 3 identical sacks to make a dress, for example, and the consumer would need to buy 3 sacks instead of one. Magazines and pattern companies began to publish patterns for the feedsack prints. Directions were given for using the strings from feedsacks in knitting and crocheting. A 1942 estimate showed that three million women and children of all income levels were wearing print feedbag garments. After WWII, manufacturers began substituting paper for cloth. For the most part, cloth bags eventually fell out of use. My Mom, who is 83 and grew up in Missouri, tells stories of looking forward to seeing what the fabric was on the latest flour sack so she could plan her next outfit.
