This is a great Gibson 175 copy by the Japanese Matsumoku company Ventura. It is a 1970 vintage guitar. It has features unlike any 175 copy guitar that I have ever seen. I discovered some of these features recently when I had the guitar's neck re-fretted by a 22 year Gibson luthier. One feature he noted is that this guitar has upgraded Alnico 5 humbuckers pickups that he said are identical to the pickups that came in an L-5CES of that era. I can't verify this but they are uncommonly tubby, full, jazz/blues to the core and much more pickup than came in my Gibson 175 in 1968. In the years I have owned this I have never thought of replacing the pickups. This one also has real waffleback Kluson gold tuners that absolutely do not slip and are extremely concise. T is no sign on the natural finished neck that these tuners were replacements--no holes and they fit and work perfectly. The headstock is obviously not 'Ventura' though based on the label that is near totally obscured in one of the f-holes because of age, I assume that under the Gibson logo t is still a 'Ventura'. T is normal pitting on all of the gold hardware, especially the gold bridge and pickup covers. I bought this guitar from a well known luthier so it is possible that he changed the headstock around or perhaps it did come this way. What I know is that it looks very good read more
