T arent enough words to say how nice this old scrapbook is. It has stories to tell of several area families from the Urbana and Arthur Ill. area. One is of a predominate pioneer doctor Dr. J.B Rigney who lived in Arthur and Urbana Illinois. Many of his relatives are mentioned like Sara Rigney and t are two pictures with names one appears to be Maria and her husband whose name first name I cant quite make out. T is a business card for Graphic Bookstore Haney and Rigney Proprietors Arthur Ill. T are many obituary notices for this family the largest being for J.B. Rigney who I believe died around 1910. He married a Orra F. Mcdonald in 1868. This leads us to the next family mentioned which is the McDonnalds. John McDonnald was a stock broker from the Champain Urbana area. He belonged to many masonic organiziations. T are many small cards listing his name and masonic orders. He was a commander. T is info on his belonging in 1875 to the royal arch masons. He was tragiclly killed in a train accident involving the Illinois Central Railroad in 1886 along with several other people. The accident happened in Savoy Ill. T are several article from newspapers of the time about the wreck listing all those who died. T also is letter from the local masonic lodge giving simpathy to the family and admonishing the Ill. Central railroad for neglect. John's funeral obituary and funeral notice are in the book as well. Also included is a baby picture of Phillip McDonnald born in 1848 and died in 1910. He evidently lived in Princeton Missori. His funeral annocement and other lodge material are in the book. Going back slightly for John the book also contains several land grants signed by several presidents. One signed by Millard Fillmore in 1851 gave land to John McDonnald. The land was to be given to Jonas Stansbury private in Captain Green's Co 5th Reg. Indiana Vol. but he signed over the 160 acres in Iowa to McDonnald. Stansbury could of been family or this was in payment of a debt since John was a stock broker. The land was being given for mititary service. This land grant has Charleston Clark Co IA. written on the side of it. One land grant was given to Daniel McDonald for a 80 acres in Clark Co. Ind. June 1823 signed by James Monroe. All of these land grants are glued in the book. As far as I know the signatures are by these president but I cant guarrantee it. I'm no expert on handwritting. They are being sold as it. They definatly are from the time period mentioned and are not copies. ONe of the people receiving grants dont seem to be related to the Rigneys or McDonnalds that I could tell. One was to John Ballard Jackson Co. Indiana 40 acres given in 1834 and signed by Andrew Jackson. As mentioned t are many masonic items in this book from different areas: Clayton Lodge Clayton Ill. Princeton Lodge Princeton Missori, T are some Eastern Star items as well. These items date back at least to the 1870's. T are also black and white pictures from a newspaper showing buildings from the University of Ill. The person who had this album had a fasination with James Whitcomb Riley. T are many articles about his life and death in 1916. All so t is a front page from The Arthur Graphic Aug 29, 1890. It was folded in the book and isnt glued. T are approximatly 55 pages in this 17x13 inch book. The binding is fair and some pages are loose and have frayed edges. The scrapbook is not in perfect shape but books of this age never are. It is very readable and very interesting. T are many marrage , funeral, and a few graduation annocements. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ABOUT THIS ITEM. I WILL BE GLAD TO LOOK UP INFO AND ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS BOOK. This is a rare item that wont be found again and a very low starting price for the amount of info in this book. T are hours of reading and research that wil come out of this book. All sales final not respo...
