Watts merged his Blue Ribbon Dairy with Mr. Hardy's creamery (back in 1927) and they became Watts-Hardy Dairy. In 1971, the company built a new dairy facility in Boulder Colorado and ran things until selling out to yet another dairy in 1983. In that intervening time (August of 1976) this crate was born. The dairy, that bought Watts-Hardy, closed up shop in 1987. Today, the building that Watts-Hardy built is now known as The Dairy Center For The Arts. Anyway - that's what I hear.Sometime during all this, someone paid no attention to the "WARNING use by other than reg. owner prohibited by law $500 fine maximum" printing on one side of this crate, and took it home with him. It got filled with his junk and then set aside. I found it at an auction, along with that junk, here in Minnesota. The crate measures 19" wide by 13" deep by 11" tall. Irregardless of what your computer monitor may have you believe, I'd call it "burgundy." More sophisticated people might call it "champagne."The crate is structurally sound, but has obvious wear from the ages including some latex paint splatter, dirt, and surface rust on the metal band at the top. I wiped it down a bit before taking the pics, but there's more to do if you're so inclined; I noticed that much of the filth inside the triangular patterns come off easily if you simply pull a wash clothe read more
