The item for sale is a vintage Western Electric Model 51 AL Dial Candlestick Phone with matching Western Electric 634 Subset (ringer box). The phone would date probably to the 20's and has been completely repainted and rewired with the original type cloth insulated wiring. The internal wiring going from the base up to the switch (inside the candlestick shaft) is an original Western Electric cord, complete with a paper label showing patent dates, the last of which is 1914 (label shown in picture). It was in good shape so we left it in place. Also replaced was the base plate felt, and the dial center. The new one is the standard WE, which says "Wait for Dial Tone". The one that was on the phone has the number CE 2-2102 Ext. 1, so this phone must have been used by a business - probably up into the 40's or 50's. The original dial center will be provided to the buter. We repaint these phones with an original type oil based enamel, which is baked on to be as close to original as we get. New cloth insulated wiring is also used going from phone to subset and for the wall cord. At the end of the wall cord we install an RJ-11 block so that you can plug in a modern modular line.
