An outstanding piece of Western Electric history , this model 3B Transmission Measuring Set was used to test and calibrate both telephone and radio broadcast lines in the mid 1920s. State of the art in its day, th is early electronic test equipment remains in excellent condition -- inside and out. The oak dove-tailed case shows normal wear on its original finish. T are no chips or defacing scratches in the Bakelite panels or glass meters. All wiring is intact, in its harness, and its insulation retains its original bright colors. This rare set is packed with early and hard to locate WE parts -- from the two 101D tennis ball vacuum tubes and brass sockets, to the pots, caps, transformers, dials, wiring, switches, pins -- all fine examples of early, over-engineered Western Electric quality. Even the Weston meter , housed in it's own lovely box beneath the panel, is highly valued today. Both vacuum tubes exhibit continuity. I cannot bring myself to risk the filaments in my old Army surplus tester. Please bid accordingly -- you may be pleasantly surprised. Notice in the pictures that a lock could be placed on the door housing these tubes -- a testiment to their value even in their day! Please note that the display base in photos 8 and 9 is not included in this sale. "Museum piece" is an over-used term on eBay, but those who know vintage WE equipment will appreciate this set's FINE and ALL ORIGINAL condition - nothing refinished, nothing replaced. Rare, complete, and of the highest WE craftsmanship, this has been a centerpiece of my personal collection for more than a quarter-century.
