Here is a really fabulous antique wicker sewing basket. Size is approximately 10" by 11". It is probably from the early 1900's. It appears to be made by hand. The edge around the lid is woven. The top and sides has braided strips with a double cane decorating pattern about 1/3 of the way down from the top and across the middle of the lid. There is a cane molding around the top edge of the lid and the top and bottom edge of the base. The bottom appears to be pine covered with a type of paper. The inside is lined with a silky fabric that is trimmed with a braid. The material is slightly stained on both sides on the lid and 1 spot on the bottom. The wicker shows no stain however. The shape is quite unique. It is held together by small nails. The workmanship is really phenomenal. As is the condition. No flaws or damages except noted one hinge in the back is replaced by wire and there is a nail in place of the bottom wicker part of the hook. It has a wonderful patina. Really a wonderful, wonderful find. This is the only one I have ever seen.
