These Wingback earrings are very hard to find . Wingback Co was founded in 1946 but not known when operation ceased. Wingback earrings replaced the uncomfortable clip-style earrings and is as comfortable as a pierced earrings but does not require ears to be pierced. The 'wing' portion of the earring sits inside the ear. The balance of the wing inside the ear and a back wire restingon the back of the ear holds the earrng in place. Even with a heavily beaded earring it feels lightweight and comfortable. The back of the earrings are usually marked with an 'L' and 'R' for left & right ears. Wingback jewelry is extremely rare and identifiable by its 'Wingback' fastener . Wingback is primarily found with simulated pearls or rhinestones of various colors and probably only manufactured for a short period of time. These baroque Pearl Wingback earrings are in wonderful condition and do fit as described. The pearl is held in place by filigree backing that comes up and surrounds the edge of the pearl. Earrings are 1" diameter and in extremely good condition. I do not detect any wear on these earrings. This is a definite pair of earrings as one has the 'R' and the other 'L'.
