VINTAGE WOODEN BALDWIN PLANE DOUBLE SASH PLANE 1800'S Before the days of the all-steel hand planes or the machine planes used today, carpenter-craftsmen would use planes like these to shape wood into any form they desired. And t were planes made for every purpose -- from the shaping and smoothing of wooden rafters to the fine details work of floor and crown mouldings, window frames, and furniture. This wooden plane was designed to create a window sash, cutting both side of the sash at the same time. Made by A & E Baldwin early in the 19th Century, this plane was authenticated by a tool expert at the Antiques Road Show taping in Milwaukee in August of 2006. While it shows signs of use, this plane is in good condition and the blades are intact. T is no boxing missing. The wood shows the typical signs of use from a carpentry shop. T is a chip missing from the front edge of the plane but it does not affect the profile. The plane is 9-1/2 inches long and a total of 1-1/4 inches wide. The two blades are 5/8" and 7/8" and so have a bit of rust, but are still extremely sharp. The two sides of the plane can be expanded apart to adjust for the width of the sash. Ideal for any collector of American craftsmanship. Shipping and insurance will be though the USPS/UPS to all U.S. destinations.
