Vintage • WOODEN HORN & Utah DRIVER • from PHONOGRAPH, maybe RADIO • 'Gotta see!'Neat find here...!I've probably had this 8-10 years, and just found it again.Comes from a huge estate that had a ton of vintage radio and phonograph equipment... 'and I mean that "literally" as the guy had been quite a pack rat :O)...There are basically three sections to this. The wooden horn is a thin plywood that's been bent and then hammered together with small nails.A little roughness at the edges, but no big pieces missing and actually in pretty good shape, all things considered. It's attached to the throat by a wooden plate and small screws.I think the throat is probably iron, 'very heavy metal, anyway.Only mark I could find on it is an "F" in a diamond, but that could be from a foundry, 'hard to say.On the other end, the driver is threaded and screws into the throat.I didn't remove it, but it will turn so it's not locked up and should come off. Has an old "Utah" sticker on it ('see pics). Working condition is unknown.Anything I would have to hook it up to might blow it, and I don't have a clue re: what impedance, etc. they might have used back then, so I've left it alone.I generally assume anything electronic this old needs work... 'but I don't know that for a fact. Some of the nails and screws are coming loose a little, but should be an easy fix. read more
