OLETOOKS BOOKS "The Little Bookstore Behind Bag End" Reasonable Shipping - Quality Packaging - USPS Delivery Vintage Wooden Hand-Carved Thorens Music Box Civil War Soldier & Cannon "Battle Hymn of the Republic" Up for your consideration is a vintage wooden music box from Thoren, it key winds to play the "Battle Hymn of the Republic as it rotates. The platform has a cannon inside a woven fence with a Civil War soldier with all his accoutrements and his longrifle at attention. It has a Thorens music box movement, made in Switzerland with label on round headed long key and on the base. It measures about 5 inches wide and 6 inches tall. Hand painted and carved. This is beautiful little music box depicting a Union Sergeant soldier of the Civil War. It is made of wood of fairly intricate pieces, the bandstand being an octagonal that is gaily painted at the seams, for the wheels, body, and barrel of the cannon with the wheels painted for spokes, the little powder keg barrel and balls behind, and of course, the soldier manning the cannon. The little soldier is all hand-carved, has a marvelously preserved and detailed little face, eyes forward direct, rosy cheeks, and wearing the Union uniform of the pinched hat with an X, his bag, khaki U.S., the little jacket carved a bit and painted with the stripe and buttons, his powder-pouch
