A Rare 1935 Silver Oceans Globe By the George F. Cram Co. The George F. Cram Co. began making globes in 1932 and became very creative, experimenting with many designs and materials reflective of popular styles of the period. With Chicago's Century of Progress World Fair in 1933-34 introducing new technological innovations and sleek moderne styling one may assume that this influence may have been the conception of the lustrous silver finish of the globe and the more Art Deco styled mount. Perhaps creating an impression of a more technologically advanced globe, albeit a highly stylized one! This model was limited in production however, due to the fragility of the silver finish which was sensitive to handling. The small stature of the globe belies the amount of information including a world wide legend of Short-Wave radio stations and their call signs! A 1935 9in. Terrestrial Globe by the George F. Cram Co., Indpls, IN. A fiberboard orb covered in 12 unique silver colored map gores mounted on a metal offset arm atop of a black round metal base with silver highlights. The approximate dimensions are 11in. high by 9in wide. The political borders displayed include; Manchoukuo (occupied and renamed by the Japanese 1931), French Indochina, Siam (changes to Thailand 1939), Persia (changes to Iran in 1935), Austria is still independent (annexed to Germany 1938), Saar or Rhineland has not been returned to Germany (returns 1936), Irish Free State is listed (existed from 1922-37) The condition of the globe is good with some creasing, soiling and some scuffing with minor loss. The silver finish of the globe remains very clear. The base and offset arm are in very good condition with only some minor scuffing but no loss of finish. Please refer to Photographs. An unusually rare and highly collectible globe! As Always Thank you for Looking
