A Whimsical Nautical Art Globe by Rand McNally The Rand McNally Art Globe is famous for it's nautical themed graphics, portraying famous world explorers and their ships, the elegant compass rose and the whimsical seashell cartouche. The cobalt blue glass base adds further drama to this elegant globe. The globe displays historical borders as of 1940-1941 documenting the Italian invasion of Ethiopia and Germany's expansion into Europe. A beautiful and distinctive globe! A 12in Indexed Terrestrial Art Globe by Rand McNally, Chicago, Il. A hollow metal orb covered in 12 paper gores with a full meridian and chromed cradle mounted on a cobalt blue glass base. The approximate dimensions are 16in high by 14in. wide. The political borders displayed include; Manchukuo (occupied and renamed by the Japanese in 1931), Thailand (changed from Siam in 1939), Iran (changed from Persia in 1935), Italian East Africa ( existed from 1936-41), Austria has been annexed to Germany 1938, Czech portion of Czechoslovakia is occupied by Germany in 1939, The Baltic States, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia are still independent (annexed to the Soviet Union in 1940). The condition of the globe is very good. Minimal soiling, some minor scuffing and a spot of discoloration. No loss of map and a nicely aged even patina. The glass base is free of chips or scratches.
