Vintage World's Fair 1904 Souvenier Woven Silk Picture, Framed This wonderful, unique woven silk picture entitled "Betsy Ross making the first United States Flag" is a World's Fair 1904 St. Louis collectible. According to a text written on the back in German it was a birthday present to Aunt Lena in Germany, June 1904. Text on matting printed in gold reads: "Woven in pure silk at Louisiana Purchase Exposition St. Louis, 1904". It is actually a woven silk fabric, not a print. It is beautfully matted with tiny fabric bow which looks like the flag. The overall frame measures 12 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches and the woven silk picture measures 7 1/2 inches x 4 1/2 inches. The frame itself seems to be original, is painted green wood and has hanger and what appears to be original glass. It is for sure the original mat as the printing suggests. On bottom edge of frame t is a chipping to the coated surface of the frame. It is structurely sound and this flaw cannot be seen except underneath (not from front). Please refer to pictures for further details. Some chipping to surface of frame noted but not visible unless inspected. On back of frame is the dedication, handwritten. Please see photos.
