Up for sale is a German, made in Turkey, knife bayonet for use with the 8mm Mauser M1893 , Karabiner 98k Kurz-"Mauser", or Springfield M1903 rifles. Although this would fit the Springfield, it was primarily made for use on the previously mentioned weapons. This is the final Turkish bayonet type designed for use with Mauser rifles. The M1935 designation is also applied more broadly to a bewildering variety of similarly-dimensioned bayonets cobbled together using recycled parts from older bayonets, but this one is original. The marking AS.FA. is an abbreviation for Askari Fabrika, which translates to "Military Factory". It is numbered "104754" and the left side of the handle is stamped "F.s.". While the number is a production number, I have never seen the "F.s." stamp before. It could be the maker or possibly the soldier it was issued to. The technicals: blade length-10 inches/254mm; overall length-14 7/8 inches/378mm; muzzle ring diameter-0.605 inches/15.4mm. This item is in great shape with no rust or major flaws. Upon close inspection, the factory grooves on the true edge (sharp side) show that it has never been sharpened. The tip also shows no signs of wear. The handles are excellent as well, as evidenced by the small stamp that is still legible. The original factory coating appears to be in tact, but thinning, on both the bayonet and scabbard. There are some divots on the right side of the blade between the fuller (blood groove) and the spine (dull edge). This piece appears to never have had rust, judging by the overall condition, but there are divots where mentioned. If they were from rust, then there would pitting elsewhere. The set appears to have seen combat due to the denting and frog wear of the scabbard. I tried to show a good representation of the denting. They are not large, as you can see in the pictures. This item was properly cleaned without destroying any historical or collector value. GOOD LUCK and thanks for checking it out. The Karabiner 98k Kurz-"Mauser" (often abbreviated "K98k" or "Kar98k"), adopted in the mid- 1930s, became the most common infantry rifle in service in the German Army during World War II. The design was developed from the Karabiner 98b, one of the carbines developed from the Model 1898. The K98k was first adopted by the Wehrmacht in 1935 as their standard issue rifle, with many older versions being converted and shortened. The Spanish Model M1893 is commonly referred to as the "Spanish Mauser", though the model was adopted by other countries in other calibers, most notably the Ottoman Empire. The M93 introduced a short staggered-column box magazine as standard, holding five smokeless 7x57 Mauser rounds flush with the bottom of the rifle, which could be reloaded quickly by pushing a strip of rounds from the top of the open bolt. It still had only two locking lugs. The new 7×57mm round, which used a 173 gr (11.2 g) full metal jacket bullet developing 700 m/s (2,300 ft/s) from a 29 inches (74 cm) barrel, became the standard infantry arm for the Spanish armed forces, as well as for the military of several Latin-American nations. It is known as the "7mm Mauser".
