A vintage ZSOLNAY Eosin glaze figurine of a girl holding a basket Description: On offer is this very attractive ZSOLNAY figurine, shaped as a sitting girl, holding a basket. This wonderful object might have served as a jewelry tray or even as candy dish. The famous ZSOLNAY pottery firm, established in Pecs, Hungary in 1852 by Miklos Zsolnay, manufactured dinnerware and terracotta products. Vilmos Zsolnay had a great success at the world exhibition in Vienna in 1874 with his children Terez, Julia and Miklos working as designers for the company. In 1875 he started manufacturing decorative wall plates, in 1898 he exhibited at the world exposition in Paris and received the gold medal. In 1891 the factory created the famous 'Eosin' luster glaze, reflecting myriad shades and colors as it is viewed from different angles. In 1910 already 1000 employees worked for Zsolnay, which received a worldwide appreciation for their ceramic items, especially vases, small figurines and animal figures, lamps with floral design, but also porcelain table ware. This vintage item with Eosin luster glaze measures 3,25 inches (80 mm) high, measuring 120 mm (4,75 inches) across. Executed in the Art Nouveau / Jugendstil taste, it is a great example of fine craftsmanship and skilled artistry. It is in perfect condition. T are no chips, cracks or repairs. The figure is marked on the bottom with a gilt Zsolnay mark with the five towers, with the text: 'Zsolnay-Hungary-Pecs - 1868 - hand-painted'.I guarantee authenticity (Zsolnay-Pecs) of this highly collectible object, which will make a superb addition to any collection of it's kind.
