This is such a rare item that I probably shouldn't be selling it ...I can't find anything as significant and dear on eBay....My parents purchased this hand-carved African piece in the early 1940's at an exhibition of African Art in New York City, and we have treasured it ever since....I grew up loving it. The piece is hand-carved, measuring 33" by 4 1/2," and is in superlative condition. It depicts, as my mother has always, said : "A Day in the Life of the Tribe;" and that is how we have always referred to it, with reverence and love. The piece is hand-carved and signed: "This plaque was hand carved by Tizenyanga Qwabi in the heart of Zululand, South Africa." This was purchased back in the days of Nelson Rockefeller, when African art was fully being realized in this country for the first time. I hope the Obama family brings such art alive again, and that they can fill the White House with the rich rewards of other cultures. This would be an amazing present for the New President and His Wife! S&H will be free to the auction winner. Thanks for looking.
