Up for auction is a vintage 1942 WWII Navy electrical door plate or plaque from the U.S.S. San Diego (CL-53) recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia, PA area. It is found in good, but as found used condition, painted at some time ago with fluorescent paint. Scratches throughout as well. Made of metal, it will not attract a magnet. This piece retains the original plaque showing that it was donated to the ship by the employees and management of the Trumbull Electrical Mfg. Co. The ship was commissioned in 1942 and served in WWII, seeing service in Guadalcanal, Marshall Islands, Philippines, China, Okinawa and Japan. It was among the most decorated ships during WWII earning 18 Battle Stars. The ship was decommissioned in 1946 and eventually sold in 1960, in Seattle, WA. Original ship information found on the reverse side as well. Could be stripped and cleaned. Overall size is approximately 9 1/2" x 8" in size. An interesting piece of military history and decorative accessory in such a collection. Please see the other fine antiques and collectibles we offer for sale or in auction form.
